Stuck? This One Change Made Me Write 20 Songs in a Year

A few weeks ago, I asked some songwriters here what was stopping them from writing more.
Here are just a few of the painfully familiar responses:

“It’s not my job. Other things constantly get higher on my to-do list.”
“When I finally have time, I’m too knackered to do anything decent.”
“I have 10,000 lyric snippets… and 0 finished songs.”

Sound familiar?
(Yeah, me too.)

Here’s the good news:
You don’t need more motivation. Or discipline. Or a productivity app.
You just need one thing: a deadline.

Deadlines work. Even science says so.

Research from HarvardMIT, (and every frustrated songwriter ever) tells us the same thing:

When we rely only on intrinsic motivation—like inspiration, willpower, or vibes—our brains will almost always choose snacks and Netflix.

But when we have extrinsic motivators—like a clear deadline and a group of people expecting something from us—our follow-through goes through the roof.

I discovered the power of Songwriting Sprints a few years ago—right when I needed it most. I was juggling two young kids, a full-time job, and a looming album deadline for a Penguin Random House audiobook. So I joined a songwriting group made up mostly of Nashville pros and semi-pros… and ended up writing 20 songs in 12 months.

That group kept me writing through exhaustion, school drop-offs, work meetings, dinner-making, dentist appointments—you name it. It wasn’t magic. It was just structure, community, and deadlines.

That’s why we created the 8-Week Songwriting Sprint.
Because waiting until “life calms down” to write songs is like waiting for a unicorn to do your laundry.

Instead, the Songwriting Sprints give you:
🧭 Structure — a songwriting prompt every two weeks
⏳ Accountability — deadlines that actually help you finish songs
🎧 Feedback — from peers during the Sprint, and from me and Benny at the end
🌍 Community — a group of songwriters around the world doing it with you

It’s not a class. It’s not a grind. It’s not forever.
It’s just 8 weeks. 4 songs. One brilliant reset.

🕒 Early-bird pricing ($50) ends June 6.
After that, it’s $75—but honestly, the real cost is another 8 weeks of “I’ll write when I have time.”

Let’s get your songs out of your head and into the world.

Write for life,
